If youre around Launceston and fancy a bit of tennis history without swinging a racket yourself, theres this series of short talks happening at the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk. Burcu Keane, the assistant curator for history at QVMAG, will be chatting about the Alexander Patent Racket Company over three quick sessions right inside the Alexander 100 exhibition. Shell dive into the quirky creativity, the tight-knit community vibe, and the bold dreams that took Tasmanian tennis gear all the way to Wimbledon, sharing stories and inventions that basically built a hundred years of local sporting lore. Its free, but you need to register to snag a spot.
The talks kick off on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, from 11 am to 11.30 am, at 2 Invermay Road in Invermay. Think of it as a low-key way to learn why a bunch of Aussies once ruled the court from down under, minus the actual sweat.
