Take a trip back in time and dive into the riveting world of Tasmanian railway history at the Blacksmith Shop in the Museum at Inveresk. This place is where blacksmiths and tradesfolk flexed their muscles, turning red-hot metal into the nuts and bolts (literally) that kept the railway and other industries chugging along. Who knew that the art of hammering hot iron could be such an essential, albeit messy, sideline to a commuter's morning?
You'll be guided by the talented Manuela Pilz, a Launceston local who knows her way around a charcoal stick better than most people know their way around the snack aisle. This hands-on workshop will have you exploring the impressive (and possibly grotty) tools and machines from yesteryear, all while soaking up the exhibition's intriguing tales and textures. Who knew history could be so tactile? So come along, and perhaps channel your inner blacksmith—just don't forget to wash your hands afterwards.
