Pop into the Museum at Inveresk and spend a couple of hours with QVMAG's Curator of Natural Sciences, Dr Alfonsina Arriaga Jimenez, learning the proper way to pin and preserve insects. You'll stroll the Inveresk gardens to see the tiny models in their natural habitat, then get hands on with museum techniques and basic entomology — steady fingers and a healthy curiosity are more useful than squeamishness.
The session shows why pinned specimens matter for research, conservation and tracking biodiversity, rather than being a macabre hobby. It's aimed at children aged 8 to 14 who should attend with a parent or caregiver. Cost ranges from $0 to $7.51, depending on the ticket.
