Ever wondered what a black hole actually is, or how something you can't even see manages to be such a big deal. Well, the Launceston Planetarium is putting on a show to spill the beans. These cosmic oddities, which even Einstein had a hunch about long before we could prove they existed, are basically regions of space where light checks in but never checks out. Oh, and there is a massive one parked right in the middle of our very own Milky Way galaxy.

This particular show, put together by the clever folks at the Melbourne Planetarium, will delve into what black holes really are, how they form, and the wonderful physics behind how they manage to distort space and time. They will even explore what happens if you get a bit too close to one, though they strongly advise against adding that to your bucket list. After the show, stick around for a live tour of the current night sky. You can catch this cosmic yarn on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, from 2:30 PM to 3:15 PM, over at the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk. Entry will set an adult back ten dollars sixty seven cents, and kids seven dollars fifty one cents.
