The Launceston Planetarium is showcasing a presentation called Capcom Go. It is part of their program commemorating the half century mark since humans first managed to plant their flags on the Moon. This particular show goes back to the early days of NASA, when they were figuring out how to launch people into space without them immediately returning as a rather flat pancake, starting with the very first American space traveller in the groovy sixties.
The quirky title, Capcom Go, harks back to the Capsule Communicator, who was the singular, chosen individual in mission control with the exclusive line to the astronauts. Everyone else had to just politely listen. Once you have had your fill of cosmic history, feel free to hang around for a live guided tour of the current night sky, pointing out what constellations are doing their thing up there. This whole affair kicks off on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, running from 2:30 PM to 3:15 PM. You will find it at the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Invermay. Entry will set an adult back about $10.67, and for the smaller humans, it is roughly $7.51.
