Astronomers these days are doing more than just peeking through telescopes and saying ooh. They are collecting clues, fitting cosmic puzzle pieces together and trying to make sense of a universe that stubbornly refuses to be tidy. The narration comes from Academy Award winning actor Geoffrey Rush, who guides you through the new kind of astronomy being done beneath those famously clear Australian outback skies. Expect big questions, clever instruments and the occasional plot twist from the cosmos.

The show was made by Melbourne Planetarium with the ARC Centre of Excellence for All Sky Astrophysics, better known as CAASTRO, and it follows researchers as they scan the heavens in ways that would have sounded like science fiction not so long ago. If you like maps of the sky, data that behaves like a soap opera and explanations that make the universe feel both enormous and oddly familiar, this is the sort of curious, grown up stargazing you can sit back and enjoy.
