Origins of Life takes on the big questions of biology with a relaxed sense of wonder: how did life begin and might there be life elsewhere. The show kicks off with the Big Bang, then moves through the prebiotic chemistry that set the scene, the birth of stars, the formation of planetary systems and the very first flickers of life on Earth. Expect a quietly nerdy tour through billions of years, more molecules than you probably imagined and none of the capes.

It also covers the darker, messier chapters: the great extinctions that repeatedly reshuffled life on our planet and the ongoing search for life beyond Earth, from telescopes and probes to the occasional speculative idea scientists have to entertain. In short, a compact journey from cosmic fireworks to microbial grit that highlights how unlikely and tenacious life really is.
