Oral History Tasmania is holding their annual seminar again this year, so if you're keen to soak up some local history, clear your schedule for Saturday, 13 September 2025. They've set up shop in the Meeting Room at the Queen Victoria Museum's Inveresk site in Launceston, kicking off at 10:30 AM and wrapping up around 2:30 PM. It sounds like a rather civilised way to spend a Saturday afternoon, far from any actual gardening.

Prepare to have your historical taste buds tickled with three fascinating presentations. Helene Boyer is set to spin some "Swampie stories" from what's affectionately known as the "Venice end" of Launceston, which might just be more interesting than actual gondolas. Then, Jean Elder and Rhonda Hamilton will take you on a jaunt through Tasmanian gardens and landscapes, highlighting the interesting folks who helped shape them. And for those who love a good delve into forgotten folders, Jennifer Jerome will be talking about Community Archives and the State Library, which is where all the good historical gossip is probably kept. Entry will set you back 35 bucks for the general public, or a slightly gentler 30 bucks if you happen to be an Oral History Tasmania member, a pensioner, or a student. Good news: lunch is included, so no need to smuggle in your own snacks. Just be aware there's a small Humanitix booking fee that gets added on.
