Save the Skate is a documentary from Environment Tasmania, made by producers Land and Sea for All in partnership with Patagonia. Filmed against the chilly, haunting beauty of Macquarie Harbour, it follows the Maugean skate, a species with a very exclusive postcode that lives nowhere else on Earth and is now alarmingly close to disappearing. The film looks up close at what it means to grow up and carry on living in a place going through big ecological change.

Through conversations with scientists, artists and locals who know the water, the story traces a crisis in one of Tasmania's most recognisable waterways. It is about loss and responsibility, the quiet stubbornness of people who keep watching, and the awkward question of what we want to hand to the next generation. Expect some plain facts, a bit of local dry humour, and moments that make you think twice before treating the harbour like a rubbish bin.
