Tom's initial dip into the vast ocean of family history began with a straightforward, heartfelt mission: to offer some comfort to his mum after his dad passed on. Who knew that simple idea would spiral into a full blown academic odyssey, culminating in a PhD in history and a shelf full of books? He'll be spilling the beans on how a seemingly small task, when coupled with a curious mind, can unexpectedly lead to a rather grand historical adventure.
He'll recount a tale of how chasing ancestral threads can send you down more rabbit holes than you can count, but also unearth a far deeper understanding of Australian and Tasmanian history. Turns out, your own family might just prove to be a good deal more diverse than you first thought. This free yarn is happening at the Launceston Library, and while it won't cost you a cent, you will need to book your spot beforehand.
