Sothere's this thing called , happening on Tuesday the 25th of August 2026 at 7:30 PM. It's at the Albert Hall in Launceston, which is that old building on the corner of Tamar and Cimitiere streets that looks like it could have its own ghost. The Opera Australia people are pretty famous, and they're taking over the place for an evening full of passion, peril, heroes, monsters, lovers, and liars. Basically all the good stuff you'd expect from opera, but without you having to learn Italian to keep up. Whether you're the kind of person who already owns a velvet smoking jacket or you just wandered in because you heard there might be snacks, it's probably worth a look.

As for the money side of things, you've got a few options. Premium seats will set you back between 69 and 72 dollars, which seems like a lot until you remember you're getting a whole night of people dramatically dying in song. A Reserve is the mid range, from 46 to 69 bucks, which is about the same as a nice dinner out except nobody brings you a bill at the end. There's also a Friends category for 66 to 69 dollars, which I think means you get to sit next to someone who really likes opera and might explain what's going on. Or it could just be a different part of the hall, honestly I'm not sure. Anyway, it's on, it's in Launceston, and if you miss it you'll have to wait until the next time they roll through town, which could be never.
