So, you're looking for something to do on a chilly Thursday morning that doesn't involve defrosting the car or fighting over the last heat pack. Enter the Winter Arts Workshop at Launceston Library with Jo Malherbe, where you can craft your very own Matisse-inspired book. Honestly, if Matisse could cut out colourful shapes and call it art, you can too. It's free, which is about the best price for a morning out, and it runs from 10 am to 1 pm on 25 June 2026. Just don't turn up without booking first, because the library has limits, and nobody wants to be that person peering through the window.

The venue is Launceston Library at 71 Civic Square, which is easy enough to find if you've ever wandered near the city's centre. Expect a cosy atmosphere, possibly some strategically placed hot drinks, and the chance to spend a few hours doing something that feels productive but is also just a bit silly in the best way. No prior art skills required, only a willingness to embrace winter and possibly get glue on your fingers. Book your spot, bring yourself, and leave the worrying about whether your book will look like a Matisse at home. It probably won't, but that's half the fun.
