Want to see a trilobite up close without having to time travel half a billion years back? On Thursday 16 July 2026, Dr Russell Bicknell will be at the Museum at Inveresk in Launceston, helping you piece together what these ancient sea creatures actually looked like. Trilobites were around long before dinosaurs got their chance to be famous, and now you can get your hands on some 3D printed bits and bobs to build your own fossil model. It is part science, part engineering, and a lot of fiddling with plastic fragments that look like something from a prehistoric IKEA.

The session runs from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm and will set you back a very reasonable $7.51, which is probably less than a decent coffee these days. No prior palaeontology experience required just bring your curiosity and maybe your reading glasses if tiny pieces make you squint. It is a relaxed morning activity for anyone who thinks fossils are cool but also wants to know how scientists actually study them. Head to the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk on Invermay Road, Invermay. No need to bring a hammer, they have the bits covered.
