Ever wondered how cartoons and movies make things move without just shaking the screen really fast? This workshop is for curious kids who want to stop asking that question and start making their own wobbly animations. You will get to create a flip book, which is basically a stack of paper that pretends to be a movie, and then dive into stop motion animation, where you take a bunch of photos and trick your brain into seeing movement. It is all very scientific but also a lot of fun, and you will leave with something you made yourself that might make your family go "how did you do that" or at least "that is weirdly adorable."
Just a heads up: you need to bring a phone or tablet because the stop motion part requires a free app. No need to buy anything fancy, and the kids can download it beforehand if they want to feel prepared. The whole thing costs six dollars per person, which is less than a large coffee these days, so not bad for two hours of creative chaos. It is aimed at kids aged 7 to 13, but if you are an adult who wants to come and make a flip book of your cat falling off the couch, you might want to check if they have a spare ticket. The event is on Tuesday 14 July 2026 from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm at the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk, which is about a ten minute drive from central Launceston or a pleasant walk if the weather is being kind.
