Ever wonder how your favourite cartoons and movies make things move, or why flipping through a stack of drawings feels like magic and not just a paper cut waiting to happen? In this workshop, you and your young ones can find out by dabbling in the ancient art of the flip book and messing about with stop motion animation. It is basically a chance for kids to pretend they are film directors without needing a Hollywood budget, though they will need to bring a phone or tablet to download a free app. So if your seven to thirteen year old has ever demanded to know how those tiny Lego minifigures come to life, this is their moment.

The session runs from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm on Tuesday 14 July 2026 at the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Invermay. Tickets are a very reasonable six bucks per person, so you will not need to remortgage the house for a bit of creative chaos. Best suited to kids aged seven to thirteen, but adults are welcome to supervise and maybe sneak a flip book for themselves. No prior animation experience required, just a willingness to make things hop, skip, and wobble on screen.
