If you have ever found yourself staring at the night sky and wondering how we all got here, this planetarium show offers a reasonably thorough answer, starting with the Big Bang and working its way through the messy chemistry that eventually produced stars, planets, and the first brave microbes on Earth. It also touches on the great extinctions, because apparently life enjoys a bit of drama, and finishes up with our ongoing search for anything alive beyond this planet. It is basically a sentimental journey through time that tries to make you feel good about being a carbon based life form.
Each showing is followed by a live look at whatever is actually happening in the sky above Launceston that night, so you get to point at real stars and pretend you know what they are. The event runs from 2.30 pm to 3.15 pm on Tuesday 30 June 2026 at the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Invermay. Tickets are $10.67 for adults and $7.51 for children, which is roughly the price of a fancy sandwich, but with more science.
