So here's the thing. On Saturday the 18th of July 2026, the Launceston Planetarium is letting a bunch of Tasmanian space-cowboys called Golden Sunbird take over their dome for a live music thing. It's the last stop on their Australian Planetarium Tour, and they're finishing up at QVMAG in Inveresk. Basically, you sit under that big curved ceiling while they play their original psych-rock space jams, and the dome itself turns into a giant light show of outer space imagery. It's like a concert but you're inside a lava lamp that's also a science museum. Tickets are forty bucks a pop, and they reckon it's suitable for ages twelve and up, probably because any younger and they'd start asking too many questions about black holes.
There are two sessions to choose from, both lasting an hour: one at 3 pm and another at 6 pm. The band calls their sound "cosmic psych-rock" which is a fancy way of saying they make noises that feel like floating through a nebula while your brain does a little dance. They pair those noises with full dome visuals that mix real space stuff with weird art, so you get that whole "is this science or a dream" vibe. No pressure to buy a ticket, but if you've ever wanted to lie down in a planetarium and let some locals noodle about the universe with you, this is your chance. Just head to the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Invermay. No need to dress like an astronaut, but nobody's stopping you either.
